List of Things “You Want” Poem
Poetry moves from general to specific.
Poetry moves from abstract to concrete and sensuous.
Does not tell, but shows.
Instead of cliched, it’s fresh and surprising.
Unnatural diction, do natural diction.
Too many adjectives (loose and over-modified language), tight crafted language.
Use patterned language.
Form of expressing feelings and content.
Here’s what you have to do:
Create a list of things you want
When making your list, think of ways how your items can come together
Write lines and verses for your poem. Feel free to change around the order of the list
Make sure to follow the advice above.

Example for you:
For a warm bed at night
A steamy hot cup of coco

Travel Europe
Live off in the country, near the city
Buy unlimited books from Barnes & Nobles
Watch the summer leaves turn to autumn colors
My mother to understand me
Sitting near the River Seine & Eiffel Tower with a glass of champagne.
What I Want
is my bed warmed
by the crackling fire in the evening.
To wake up and have a piping hot mug of hot chocolate
sitting on the nightstand,
filled with enormous marshmallows and swirls of cream.
For that book,
I’m writing to sit on shelves display on shelves.
My passport and feet
carry me across the ancient streets of Europe,
where I’ll eventually end up somewhere in the country.
The city buzzing like a bee,
just a few minutes drive away.
Just one person in my life
to help stack piles of books
to buy in Barnes and Noble until they tumble,
spilling across the ground.
And watch the summer leaves
turn Autumn colors.
My mother just hands reach away,
her arms open in understanding.
Maybe she’ll be the one
sitting near the Seine River and the Eiffel Tower,
a glass of champagne in her hand.
